The loss of precious data

Over the last week or so of hot weather, I have witnessed, several times, the effects of people losing precious date like photos, music and documents, etc. The fact is that we all store things on our computers and laptops and think that it’s safe to do so. A few of my customers have recently had the misfortune to lose such data due to a corrupted or failed hard drive. It's so easy to think that it will never happen to you, but the truth is that it can happen to anyone, at any time. When the weather starts to heat up, so does your computer and this can make them more prone to failure.

Backing up data is far, far easier than most people think. You can back up onto an external hard drive, usb memory pen, cd's or dvd's plus a few others and it doesn't have to cost a lot. Pretty much all computers already have the required software to back up with and if not, there is plenty of free software on the web to do the job. so in reality, it's only going to cost you a few pounds on a memory pen or discs to save that precious data.

There are plenty of "How To's" on the internet, showing you how to back up your data using various methods, so there really is no reason why you can't do it.

I'll even help you with the first bit by providing links (below) to some relevant pages.

Backup Software

Cobian Backup – I use this free software myself, although it’s a little more advanced that the standard software.

Just try to imagine how you would feel if you suddenly lost all those precious pictures or important files and documents just because you didn’t spend a few minutes of your time to keep them safe. Don’t put it off, back up your data now.

If you are still unsure of what to do, just give me a call and I'll point you in the right direction. If you live within a ten mile radius of Kidderminster, I will happily come to see you and set everything up for you, although I would have to charge a small fee.
